Blackmail, Extortion, Harassment & Coercion Victim Representation: Representative Matters

Whether online or offline, no two cases of Blackmail, Extortion, Coercion, Stalking or Harassment are the same. A mere snapshot of matters handled by Saland Law’s Blackmail lawyers and Harassment attorneys in our capacity as victim representatives, the success of our advocacy on behalf of the extorted, blackmailed, harassed and tormented in New York City, the Hudson Valley and New York State, is unparalleled. Relying on and utilizing our experience as prosecutors in the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office and as criminal defense lawyers, we implement the same investigative techniques and best practices used by law enforcement to protect our clients, their families, careers and public image. Our diligence, legal knowledge, and experience serves one goal. That is, without compromising client privacy or the integrity of the legal process, Saland Law will put you in the best place to regain control of your life, provide you with closure, and put an end to your abuser’s cowardly behavior.

Blackmail, Extortion & Harassment: The Public Figure & The Jilted Ex-Lover

Our client, a public figure in the entertainment business, was harassed by a former intimate partner both on and offline. The jilted ex reached out to at least one news media outlet to expose a claimed intimate secret regardless of the same’s veracity. The former lover demanded compensation and to join our client in the spotlight. After Saland Law served the scorned-ex with a cease and desist memo and our investigators confronted him/her, all communications, contact, harassment and blackmailing abruptly ended.

Blackmail, Extortion & Harassment: The Medical Professional & The Escort

Our client, a medical professional, met a person online. After providing personal information to the individual, our Client made no further steps to meet and instead made it clear he/she was not interested in following through. Shortly thereafter, the online harasser demanded, and received, thousands of dollars from our client after threatening to expose our client for engaging an escort even though our client had not done so. Recognizing the gravity of the situation after the online harasser tracked down and communicated with our client’s spouse and employer and made more financial demands, Saland Law facilitated a meeting with the District Attorney’s Office. Ultimately, prosecutors secured an indictment of the extorter and, upon the now defendant’s felony conviction, a judge sentenced our client’s blackmailer to a term of incarceration.

Coercion and Harassment: The Attorney & The Jealous Same Sex Third Party

Our client, a “Big Law” attorney, was anonymously threatened by a third party to refrain from engaging in a consensual relationship with a person of the same gender. The third party further demanded the return of any monies and gifts given to this claimed lover after posing as an investigator hired on behalf of the lover’s family. The harasser threatened to expose the same sex relationship to our client’s spouse if our client failed to act. Our investigation successfully tracked down and identified the out of state third party who turned out to be a former lover of the same person with whom our client had a relationship. After served with a Saland Law cease and desist memo and confronted by our investigators over his/her actions, all communications, contact, harassment and coercive behavior immediately stopped.

Blackmail, Extortion and Harassment: The Husband & The Sugar Baby

Our client, a businessman, met a woman on SeekingArrangement.Com. After going to a bar with the “Sugar Baby,” the woman began texting and calling our client demanding thousands of dollars. If our client failed to unjustly enrich the extorter, the blackmailer stated she would share pictures of the two kissing and “making out” at the bar. Saland Law’s Blackmail investigation revealed that the person demanding the monies was not the woman met online, but an out of state cohort. Complicating matters, the women met online was under 18 and unable to consume alcohol with our client. Although no intimacy between the parties occurred, our investigators confronted the out of state extorter, the young woman from online, and the latter’s parents. After served with a Saland Law cease and desist memo and confronted by our investigators over their respective actions, all communications, contact, harassment and blackmail promptly ceased.

Blackmail, Extortion and Harassment: The Financial Services Professional & The Working Girl

Our client, a financial sector professional, met an individual while vacationing out of state. Our client allegedly revealed personal and financial information to this person and engaged in sexual intercourse. After returning home, our client began receiving calls and texts from this person demanding significant dollars or our he/she would divulge the alleged intercourse with our client’s spouse. Upon confirming the identity of the extorter, our investigators, armed with a Saland Law cease and desist memorandum, flew out to the state where the blackmailer resided and confronted this individual over his/her the illegal conduct. The blackmail, extortion and harassment ended in short order.

Theft of Intimate Images: The Young Musician & The Arrogant Businessperson

Our client, a professional in the music arena, provided a computer device to a colleague during a musical performance. The “friend,” a successful entrepreneur and businessperson accustomed to seeking forgiveness rather than asking for permission in advance, wrongfully searched for and copied intimate images from our client’s computer without our client’s knowledge or consent. Upon confirming dates and times of the image forwarding, our investigator, with Saland Law’s cease and desist memorandum, confronted the thief who promptly retained counsel. Upon discussing the issue with counsel, the “friend” agreed to destroy all images wrongfully in his/her possession and confirmed none had been uploaded or shared.

Blackmail, Extortion & Harassment: The Investment Banker & The Transgender Escort

Our client, an investment banker, met a transgendered person online. After the client allegedly invited the escort into the home shared with his/her spouse and child, the client allegedly engaged in sexual relations and drug use with the paramour. Shortly thereafter, the escort began extorting our client after revealing purported pictures of our client engaged in what appeared to be drug use and other intimate images from our client’s home. Upon tracking down the blackmailer, serving a Saland Law cease and desist memorandum and confronting the escort, the blackmail promptly terminated.

Blackmail & Harassment: The Corporation & The Former Employee

Our client, a reputable business, was extorted by a former employee after our client fired the employee for cause. The former employee then demanded a sum of money or he would accuse our client of violating tax laws and committing other unethical acts. After explaining to our client how to address the former employee’s assertions to best catch him in lies and criminal conduct, our investigators arranged for a “controlled call.” During this call, the former employee made statements reflecting the dishonesty behind the allegations as means to unjustly secure monies. After served with a cease and desist memo and confronted by our investigators over the former employer’s actions, all communications, contact, harassment and blackmail stopped.

Blackmail, Extortion, Stalking & Harassment: The Young Professional & The Grifter

Our client, an Ivy League college and MBA graduate, met an individual outside a university alumni club. Likely waiting for and preying upon a person leaving such an establishment, the stalker briefly engaged in a consensual and intimate relationship with our client. Within approximately one week, the soon to be harasser tried to move into our client’s apartment and, after our client terminated the relationship, the eventual extorter claimed our client committed Assault and other crimes. The fraudster then provided images reflecting alleged injuries and demanded compensation. Not submitting to threats for “hush money,” the individual wrote emails to our client’s employer to demonstrate how he/she could hurt our client if monies were not paid. Not only did our client deny any wrongdoing, but our investigation confirmed that the alleged images of an Assault predated any relationship with our client. Further, we established the tormentor had a prior history of similar conduct. More importantly, Saland Law and our investigators met with our client’s employer, who suspended and considered firing our client, to advocate on our client’s behalf. Upon doing so, the firm allowed our client to return to work and acknowledged our client’s victimization.

A sampling of Extortion, Blackmail, Harassment and Stalking matters handled by Saland Law as victim advocates, our lawyers represent clients with or without law enforcement involvement, in Family Court to secure orders of protection, and both online and offline. ... I was facing a class B felony and potentially tens of thousands in fines and some legit jail time and after hiring Jeremy Saland he obviously struck enough fear into the prosecutors with his sheer litigation might that it was knocked down to a petty misdemeanor and after a few sheckles and a handful of counseling sessions, I will no longer have a criminal record. The offices of Saland Law are the Shaq and Kobe of criminal defense in New York City and to even consider another firm is outright blasphemy. I stand by this statement 100% Evan

Let me start by saying how amazing Liz Crotty is! I am a resident of California, who needed representation for my son who received a desk citation while he was visiting NYC. Liz jumped on the case right away; she was very thorough in explaining things to me. She is strictly business too! She went to court on my son's behalf and had his case dismissed. I am forever grateful to her. Seana G.
